A Path to a Perfect Smile
Braces are orthodontic appliances used to correct misaligned teeth and jaws. They work by applying continuous pressure over time, gradually moving teeth into their desired positions. This treatment is not only about improving the appearance of a smile but also about enhancing overall dental health.
Types of Braces
- Traditional Metal Braces: These are the most common type of braces, made of high-grade stainless steel. Modern metal braces are more comfortable and less noticeable than in the past.
- Ceramic Braces: These braces function like metal braces but are made of clear or tooth-colored materials, making them less noticeable.
- Lingual Braces: Placed on the back of the teeth, lingual braces are hidden from view. They offer a discreet option for those who are concerned about aesthetics.

InBrace® in Action
Claudia works in the beauty industry and wanted to straighten her teeth, correcting her open bite, so that she could relax while smiling at her clients. Her coworker told her about a treatment she saw on Instagram. She was hesitant to reach out, but works near the Smiles+Grins office, so decided to anyway. INCOGNITO™ BRACES IN ACTION
Jon is a young professional in the financial sector. He was always concerned about his open bite — a gap between his upper and lower teeth. Jon felt insecure during client meetings and sought to correct his smile and bolster his confidence. He chose Incognito™ braces for a full bite correction without anyone knowing he was in treatment.
traditional and clear braces
Our traditional braces are the standard orthodontic treatment option – revamped with quality materials, increased comfort, and minimized visibility. We use high-grade stainless steel, thin archwires, and a wide range of elastic colors, allowing you to customize your braces.
Our clear braces, made out of ceramic, are the limited visibility variety of traditional braces. Unlike Invisalign™, which is a removable aligner, clear braces are attached to your teeth. Clear braces offer all the benefits of traditional braces with decreased noticeability.
Enjoy straight teeth today without the pain and prolonged treatments of the past!
Clear Ceramic Braces
Clear ceramic braces blend in with the color of your teeth and work like metal braces. They are the same size and shape, but are extremely popular with adults and teenagers because of their limited visibility.
Traditional Metal Braces
These are the metal brackets and wires most people envision when they think of "braces." However, modern brackets are much smaller and less noticeable than many adults remember. Plus, advanced archwires help teeth move faster and less painfully than in the past.

braces kids children
Why is early evaluation so important?
- It can help prevent future problems
- We can monitor your child’s growth and development
Does my child need braces?
Getting an Early Evaluation
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child visits an orthodontist at the first sign of an orthodontic problem. Generally speaking, kids should see an orthodontist once their permanent teeth start coming in, around age 7. At this age, issues such as uneven bite and overcrowding will become apparent. We will be able to assess the possibilities. Starting the process early doesn’t necessarily mean a child will get braces right away. In fact, an early evaluation isn’t always followed by treatments.
Early Orthodontic Treatment
Some conditions are easy to treat when caught early.
Getting an Early Evaluation
- Crossbite
- Severe crowding
- Protruded teeth: early treatment prevents chipping and fracture of teeth, and self image issues
- Correcting bad habits: thumb sucking, mouth breather, tongue thrust
What happens during the Initial Screening?
During the screening exam, we look for:
- Crowding
- Misplaced or blocked out teeth
- Teeth that don’t fit together
- Habits such as thumb sucking or mouth breathing
We can develop a plan to help guide teeth and jaw bones as they grow. In some cases, just a few braces and a palatal expander, worn for around 6-12 months, can prevent or reduce more serious problems from developing later.
Most importantly, a small change can make a big impact on a kid’s self-confidence.
Not every child needs early interceptive treatment. In that case, we will schedule observation checkups (at no cost) so that we can keep an eye on your child’s growth and development. That way, any necessary treatment can begin at just the right time.
What treatment options/types of braces are available?
At Smiles + Grins Orthodontics, we offer the highest quality care for our kids. We have clear and ceramic braces – which are far less noticeable – and a rainbow of rubber band colors. But we also offer the more affordable traditional metal braces. In many cases, we can offer Invisalign Teen as well. And for many smaller kids, we also offer Invisalign First.

retainers
Essix Retainer
An invisible Essix retainer is a clear plastic aligner covering all tooth surfaces to maintain their position. They usually last 6-12 months or more, and are easily removed.
Fixed Retainer
A Fixed lingual retainer is considered the gold standard of orthodontic retention. A thin wire is attached directly to the inside surface of teeth. It can last indefinitely, does not hinder speech, and is not visible to others.
Hawley Retainer
The Hawley retainer is removable, adjustable and durable. It can last for many years. It is plastic or acrylic, with metal wiring. In the long run, this is the more affordable option.
